I think I’m going to take a break in October from writing flash fiction. Focus will be on longer stories. As most people know, I suffer from lupus as well as two other chronic illnesses, and I’ve had a tough year coping with all three. Part of this break will also be to focus on my health and, I hope, gain back some energy, strength, and brain power.

In the mean time, enjoy new issues of Kaleidotrope #10 (“The Giant of Malheur Park” is in this one!), A cappella Zoo, Abyss & Apex, Strange Horizons, and Brain Harvest. Oh, and enjoy this:

The Giant of Malheur Park

My short story “The Giant of Malheur Park” will be appearing in Issue #10 of Kaleidotrope. The issue will be released in October but it’s currently available for preorder. ($5) I have to say, I love this story and I’m thrilled that’s it finally going to be published!

As she entered the park, the ground dipped before her and she tripped. She tried to catch herself, but instead she fell against a wall — a moist wall of flesh.

Strange Horizons Celebrates 10 Years

This month Strange Horizons is not only running its annual fund drive BUT they’re also celebrating ten years! Woot!

I’ve been a big fan of the spec fic magazine since 2003 and have been fortunate enough to have had two stories published there.

If you’re not already reading Strange Horizons start now. I highly recommend the following stories:

The Women of Our Occupation by Kameron Hurley

29 Union Leaders Can’t Be Wrong by Genevieve Valentine

Until Forgiveness Comes by K. Tempest Bradford

The Trail of My Father’s Blood by Christopher Barzak

The Desire of Houses by Haddayr Copley-Woods

I also urge you to make a donation since the magazine relies on donations from their readers. This year they’re trying to raise $7000.
